HERE ARE LAST week’s league bowling highlights at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes:
Team of the week:
1. Patrick Olson, 752
2. Skip Whitley, 751
3. Chad Mason, 689
4. James Youtsey, 684
5. Jeremy Bloom, 651
   Total pins 3,527
League highlights:
Industrial: Patrick Olson: 277,249, 752; Matt Hodges: 244, 650; Albert Frelix: 253; Aaron Troxel: 244
3 Fingers Deep (Ryan Pratt, Jay Slack, and James Youtsey) extended their hold onto first place last week with a 22-3 point trouncing of the usually tough MTS trio. James and Ryan led the onslaught with 222 and 203 games, respectively. 3 Finger’s Deep is in first place, leading the league by a commanding 20.5 points.
Randy’s Painting moved into second place, bypassing Team #10 by 2 points. Randy’s had a good outing, taking down Team #2, 16-9. Albert Frelix was the main man for the Painters, notching a 612 series that was highlighted by a big 253 game. Matt Hodges gave it the old college try for his Team #2 with a fine 650 series, but it just fell short. Three pins short to be exact, as Chris Huff came through big-time for Randy’s in his last game, rolling a nifty 227 that not only won the third game for them but also gave them a win for total pins in their match by only three sticks, 2,001 to 1,998. In these matches, total pins for all three games for all three team members is worth a final 4 points. Had Team #2 won total pins they would have won this match 13-12.
The Hood River Supply match vs. The Rollers had remarkably similar results because of the total pins outcome. Once again Supply’s Aaron Troxel’s booming power hook flummoxed the pins all night, especially in his third and final game. Aaron’s thumbless style really found the range in that last game as he finished with a mighty fine 244 game and 632 series. Although Supply lost the last game, Aaron’s 244 boosted them to a 6-pin win for total pins, 1,942 to 1,936. Those final 4 points for the total-pin win gave Supply a 13-12 win over The Rollers for the evening. That’s some mighty close stuff, could have easily been a 16-9 point win for The Rollers. Shows how important a good finish is in this league!
Team #10 fell to third place after being smoked by Mt. Hood BBQ 18-7. John Riggleman led the BBQ boys with a 621 series.
OL’7-10 waxed Orchard Lanes 18-7 as Quinton Cox and Lynn Spellman tossed four 200 games in the match, instead of their dreaded namesake. Quinton rolled a pair of 203’s and Lynn logged 201 and 200 games.
Tuesday Nite Mixed: Patrick Olson: 279,246, 738; Jeremy Bloom: 651; Nancy Asai: 203
We’re not quite halfway into the first half of the Mixed and there is still no clear leader. The four top teams are only separated by one win. Hood River Supply (Lynn Davis, Cy Cannon, Sue Eskildsen, and Woody Eskildsen) has 15 wins whereas Team Nishi, Who Gives A Split and Gutter Dawgs all have 14.
In the spotlight matches of the evening, past champ Who Gives A Split found their stroke again as they blanked Take Ten 4-0; Hood River Supply beat CPR 3-1; and Team Nishi took Split Faced 3-1. Jeff Hasegawa and Stuart Kawachi keyed the Nishi win. Jeff rolled a big 233 game while Stuart had the pins in retreat all evening as he fashioned a nice 621 series that included 214 and 228 games. Mad Skilz got Taco Tuesday 3-1 behind the Skilz’ pin-spilling talents of finesse artist Jeremy Bloom, who splattered the sticks to the tune of a 651 series — which got him the anchor spot on the Team of the Week.
Senior Colts and Fillies: Dick Sherrell: 214,212, 617; Tony Teschner: 20
Rolling Pins (Patsy Busick, Ed Busick, and Phil Wilson) squeaked ahead of Skamaniacs for the league lead with 20 wins. The Skamaniacs are one back.
Our two leaders had a tough time last week. The Maniacs got swept 4-0 by The Cousins, and the Rollers were only able to take one from the notorious Gutter Girls.
Fraternal: Skip Whitley: 258,247,246, 751; Chad Mason: 259, 689; James Youtsey: 247,245, 684; Josh Worth: 259; Mike Parke: 257; Nancy Asai: 248; AJ Perdue: 247; Jeremy Bloom: 244
Tres Psicos (Skip Whitley, George Buck, and James Klugel) extended their league lead to a whopping 27.5 points over second place Orchard Lanes. In last week’s matches, Tres Psicos bowled against the always tough Bowling Stones. This match-up featured Psicos’ surfer aficionado Skip Whitley against the Stones’ perennial all-star, young Chad Mason. It was quite a match. Chad edged Skip in a classic strike-filled first-game duel by one pin, 259 to 258, giving his Stones trio a nice 6-1 win. But Skip was not flustered one bit. He continued on, rolling strikes like a machine to post 246 and 247 games for a huge 751 series. Skip’s second and third games keyed his crew to 6-1 point wins, and they easily won total pins for 4 more points, giving them a 17-8 win for the night. Skip’s huge 751 series put him on the Fab Five. Chad finished with a solid 689 series, which also earned him Team of the Week honors.
Meanwhile, second-place Orchard Lanes suffered a 15-10 beat-down by The Red Rockets, which enabled Tres Psicos to increase their first place lead by 7 points. James Youtsey starred for The Red Rockets in this match with a fine 684 series, also good enough to get on the vaunted Team of the Week.
In other matches last week, Team #6 lost to Mt. Hood BBQ 17-8; and the MD trio topped Electronics Assemblers 16-9.
There are only three weeks to go in round one of the Fraternal, so it’s not going to be easy to beat Tres Psicos, but it can be done in this high scoring league. Just watch the fireworks in November!
Thursday County League: Victor Flores: 234, 613; James Reck: 222; Gordon Pillon: 206; Rod Pratt: 204
A familiar pair is now leading the County league. The Incredibowls (Rod Pratt, Yoyo Cervantes, and Matt Stoneberg) is in first place with 10 wins. In second place with nine wins is The Unbowlievables. These two tenacious trios moved up as the previous leader, Save the Pins, got blanked 4-0 by The Munsons.
Talented Victor Flores led the entire league in scoring last week with a 613 series capped by a super 234 game. We’re glad to see Victor back in action. He’s a gifted pin buster and we suspect he’s just getting warmed up. Fair warning everyone, he’s likely to keep terrorizing the pins and post some really big numbers as the season goes on.
