The Rollers (Jesse Orr, Paul Dethman, and Kevin Harris) edged into first place with 42 points last week after they dismantled Orchard Lanes 24-1. Kevin Harris led his Rollers crew with a nice 635 series that was capped by a big 246 game. We are only into the second week of round 2 in the league and the standings are really tight right now. Pat’s Pro Shop is only 1 point back in second place. Hood River Supply is just 1.5 points back in third and Randy’s Painting is only 4 back in fourth.

Pat’s Pro Shop waxed Clear Cutters 23-2 last week as proprietor Patrick Olson went bonkers again for the pro shop for the umpteenth time this season with a huge 758 series (Team of the Week).

Aaron Troxel’s thumbless power ball wasn’t far behind as he scattered 729 sticks (Team of the Week) in his three games to boost his Hood River Supply crew to a 24-1 slaughter of OL’7-10. Aaron was 123 pins over his average for the night.

Tuesday Nite Mixed: Steve Silva: 257, 247, 719; Stuart Kawachi: 256, 679; Patrick Olson: 248, 661; Sandy Holmes: 234

With just one week to go in the first half of the dynamic Mixed league, irrepressible Team Nishi (Jeff Hasegawa, Janet Kawachi, Stuart Kawachi, and Joey Sheirbon) moved into first place by a nose last week. Team Nishi now has 25 wins. CPR, Mad Skilz and Hood River Supply are all tied for second with 24 wins. Double A Orchards and Take Ten are next with 22 wins. Who Gives A Split is in seventh place with 21 wins. The Mixed league has a unique format where the top two teams in each half advance to the championship roll off that will be conducted at the end of the season. Thus, any of these top seven teams can finish in the top two places in the first half. It all depends on how they do this week. Here are this week’s final key matches in the first half of the league: Hood River Supply bowls Who Gives A Split; Team Nishi bowls Mad Skilz; CPR bowls Gutter Dawgs; and Double A Orchards bowls Take Ten. Tight finishes like these are what makes team bowling so much fun.

There was some excellent pin busting in the Mixed last week. Steve Silva notched his first 700 series of the season, a fine 719 set (Team of the Week) that paced his CPR crew to a 4-0 sweep of the tough Double A Orchards crew. Steve was 143 pins over his average for the session. Sandy Holmes also chipped in a big 234 game for the CPR gang, and she ended up 115 pins over her average for her outing. But it wasn’t as easy as it looks on paper. Double A Orchards got a sterling performance out of their own Spencer Hansen who rolled two 206 games in the match and ended up 161 pins over his average for the night but alas, it wasn’t enough to top the CPR gang who have been resuscitated with newfound life.

Team Nishi’s indomitable Stuart Kawachi was hot as a firecracker last week, firing a nifty 679 series in his team’s match against Team Kawachi which ended up in a 2-2 split. Stuart was 130 sticks over his average for the evening. The last game in the match was critical for Team Nishi as Stuart racked up a big 256 game and teammate Jeff (keep ‘em low) Hasegawa contributed a 206 game which topped Team Kawachi by a whopping 99 pins. That big finish enabled Nishi to win total pins too, giving them that all important second point in the match.

Senior Colts and Fillies: Lynn Spellman: 234; Dick Sherrell: 203; Bernie Keys: 200

Gutter Gals (Tootie Seaman, Janet Hinkley, and Sue Spellman) jumped into first place with 30.5 wins by sweeping 2 Pair 4-0 last week. 2 Pair is in second place with 29 wins. There are three weeks to go in the first half of the season so first place is still there for the taking by just about every team in the league. Currently, Rice Krispies is in last place with 21 wins which is only 9.5 back of first place. With 12 wins available in the next 3 weeks, the Krispies are still mathematically in it although it’s a long shot. Shows just how close things are in the Senior league.

Bloom Auto Body (Jeremy Bloom, Mark Chabotte, and Btyan Mason) vaulted into first place last week with 45.5 points due to their 24-1 point shellacking of the normally tough Ten in the Pit trio. The tenacious Bloomers were led by substitute two hander Owen Clemett who cranked up a mighty fine 677 series, which is about average for the young ten-pin star. The Bloomers also hit the jackpot with another sub, Jesse Orr, who rolled a neat 231 game and finished up for the evening 122 pins over his average! No wonder Ten in the Pit got swamped! Of course, since we are only into the second week of round 2, which leaves 8 weeks to go in the round, virtually any team in the league can rise up and take round 2.

As is normally the case in the high scoring, fast paced Fraternal league, strikes were abundant in last week’s Thanksgiving action. Turkeys and more were everywhere! Orchard Lanes’ Patrick Olson led the hit parade with an impressive 746 series that was capped by not one but two 267 games! Since it takes at least eight strikes to get into the 260’s it means, Patrick had 16 strikes or more in those two big games. Folks, that’s a lot of strikes, most of us so called good bowlers can’t get 16 strikes in three games!

On this night Patrick was 107 pins over his average in the Fraternal league. Even with his big numbers, his Pro Shoppers were only able to win 16.5 to 8.5 against the tough Bowling Stones trio. The Stoner crew got outstanding performances from everyone on their team, Bill Morrissey rolled a cool 244 game, all-star Ciena Brittle stroked a 222 game and their all-star anchorman Chad Mason punched out a 689 set that was highlighted by 248 and 237 games. That was a tough match indeed, but Orchard Lanes did move into second place in the current standings with 36.5 points.

Mt. Hood BBQ smoked Hood River Athletic Club 23-2 behind big shooting from Mike Bosse who logged a nifty 660 series that contained big 228 and 233 games. Mike was 108 pins over his average for the session.

Finally, the Red Rockets prevailed over the MD’s 18-8 as Josue Chavarria led his Rockets crew by beating his average by 125 sticks. Lynn Spellman did his best to keep his MD squad in the match by rolling a great 729 series (Team of the Week) that was highlighted by a near perfect 10 strike 289 game. Lynn ended up 126 pins over his average for the night.
