Sorosis Park Plans Told

All officers were reelected at the annual meeting of the Sorosis Park Development Association Thursday night at Hotel Dalles Committee room, and plans were made for painting of park tables and other springtime events.

Plans for completion of the picnic area shelter, with fireplaces and space for 150 persons, are still listed by the Lions Club and Auxiliary, said Long, president of the club. Cost will be about $4,500, he estimated, for materials alone, but a substantial contribution to the project is expected from proceeds of this year’s lions Club Home and Auto Show...

Considerable opposition was voiced by several members to the planned development for city park purposes of the Union St. park, near the downtown area.

Speakers said they did not think development of the Houghton property for city par use would supplant the park area selected as the site for the new public library, as a part of a Civic Center proposal.

Vandalism in the park has been severe, Mr. Ward said, with the roof about all that is left of the cooking center erected about a decade ago by a garden club...

Corp wants public comment on tribal fishing site

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineer is seeing public comment on a “draft environmental assessment” to construct a treaty fishing access (in-lieu) site on the Columbia River near White Salmon. The proposed site is roughly a quarter mile east of the Hood River Toll Bridge and about a half-mile west of Bingen. Development of site would include facilities to support fisheries for four treaty tribes: the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Indian Nation, the Nez Perce, the Confederated Tribes of The Umatilla Indian Reservation, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon. Proposed at the site are constriction of a paved, 24-foot wide access road, parking area, fish processing building, loading dock, hydrolysate equipment, fish delivery area and two sewage drain fields.
