“Cemetery Tales” returns Sept. 25-27 to Idlewild Cemetery in Hood River.
There will be multiple performances each day and evening, with a limit of 15 per tour.
The cost is $17 per person for general admission and $15 per person for History Museum of Hood River County members and group time blocks of 15.

Each person has a story. It doesn’t have to be a story of fame and fortune but can be just a story filled with tidbits that made the person’s story interesting. The History Museum of Hood River County has a mission to preserve and tell the stories of Hood River County’s past. This will be the seventh year where the museum has been making history come alive by tell those interesting stories of Hood River’s past citizens. The stories will be told through the History Museum’s and Idlewilde Cemetery’s very popular venue Cemetery Tales.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I — I took the one less traveled,” a quote from Robert Frost’s poem The Road not Taken is the basis of this year’s Cemetery Tales theme “Choices and Decisions.” The choices one has in life and the decisions made can lead one down to many interesting paths towards happiness, hard work, sorrow, disappointments, or even challenges of survival. The audience will hear, as they travel in fifteen member groups to each graveside vignette, about how the choices and decisions impacted the lives of those buried in Idlewild. To stimulate audience curiosity and to create some surprise, a new twist will be added to the production this year. Cemetery Tales will be featuring two mystery guests.
You must choose a date and group time when you purchase your tickets. The complete performance will take approximately 90 minutes. Usually the performances get sold out, but if per chance there may be some empty slots, tickets may be obtained at the venue. The nights will become cool or it may even rain so, dress and be prepared according to the weather. Wear comfortable walking shoes. A limited number of golf carts are available for those who have difficulty walking. They must be reserved ahead by calling The History Museum, 541-386-6772. Audience participants are to check in at the Hood River Adult Center fifteen minutes before their selected performance time. They will then be bused to the Cemetery for the performance. Attendance to Cemetery Tales is not appropriate for children under the age of 12. Pets and baby strollers are not allowed.

Cemetery Tales is a community outreach program for The History Museum of Hood River County and the Hood River County Heritage Council. Proceeds from this event go towards ongoing operational needs as well as supplies and materials necessary for the preservation of precious museum artifacts.
The Hood River Adult Center will be serving a dinner on Friday and Saturday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 pm. The price for the dinner is $12. Tickets can be purchased along with the purchase of the performance tickets or at the History Museum.
