Last week’s photographic “Mystery” was so obvious nobody bothered to call in, apparently. It was a photo of the Oaks Hotel, with a big sign on the front that said “Oaks Hotel,” taken by Gladys Seufert in the mid-1900s. The hotel stood at 302 Court St., The Dalles. At one point, it was also a brothel (okay, maybe we can see why nobody wants to have a nice chat about this one). At another, the building held Jessie’s Flower Shop, 200 E. Second St. We reprint this courtesy of Columbia Gorge Discovery Center where it’s number

For this week, another of Gladys’ photos, this one also from The Dalles, showing a whole block of businesses that aren’t there anymore. Anybody got a story? Please tell it to Flora “Martin” Gibson at 541-993-1801 or florag@gorgenews.com. We’ll share whatever we learn next week!
