Halloween Scavengers
- Kirby Neumann-Rea

A middle schoolers’ downtown scavenger hunt includes a stop at Mike’s Ice Cream for free cones — a Halloween tradition for the business, which closes for the season on Oct. 31. “Aliens,” from left are seventh-graders Olive Cochran, Asal Akhmedova, Tess Balzer, Peyton Sherrell as Dorothy, Aubriella Lopez, Estrella Cuevas, and Ali Gilbert. Parents of this group of 12-year-olds organized the hunt to downtown businesses in advance. “The places were really cool, let us stand right inside the door and were really accommodating. We were just trying to keep a little normalcy,” said Melanie “The Universe” Salisbury, far left. Sarah Barresse spearheaded the Halloween events, which included a movie night.
