Fellowship of Churches

The Tuesday, Sept. 24, monthly forum of the Fellowship of Churches will feature Corliss Marsh, who will speak on the “Latest Updates on Projects Everyone Should Know About”: The Oregon Trust; Habitat for Humanity; and the library expansion project. The forum begins at 5 p.m. with a light snack, followed by the speaker. It is held at First United Methodist Church, 11th and Washington streets. This event is open to the public.

Gateway Presbyterian

Pastor Tim Vance will speak at the 8:30 a.m. traditional service and 11 a.m. contemporary service. Adult, youth and children’s classes are from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. On Sunday, Sept. 22, an all-church potluck follows the second service. The special guest will be Peter from Vietnam.

Wednesday programs include a youth group at 6 p.m., and Beth Moore “JAMES” women’s study, which opens at 6 p.m. for check-in. Class time is 6:30 to 8 p.m.; men’s study; and Parenting TODAY, at 5:30 p.m.

Children’s ministries are provided for parents and guardians attending classes at Gateway during this time.

Every Thursday at 10 a.m. is play day at Gateway. The kids can play at a secure, safe place on the play grounds while moms enjoy coffee and conversation.

The Dalles Aglow Lighthouse

September’s The Dalles Aglow Lighthouse meeting is Monday, Sept. 16, at 6:45 p.m. at Harvest Foursquare Church. This month’s speaker is Tom Panich. He grew up in Detroit, Mich., in the sex, drugs, and rock and roll culture.

He was sexually abused as a child and used drugs for years to hide the pain. He moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1980 to become a rock star, and has worked with famous songwriters and engineers.

Panich got saved in Portland in 1995. He was married in 2001 and he and his wife, Candace Sjerven, have spent the years since in full time ministry; 10 years as a drummer for Georgian and Winnie Banov. His life is an inspiring testimony of God’s love and grace. Harvest Foursquare is located at 2500 Old Dufur Road in The Dalles. Operation

Christmas Child

A kick-off effort for Operation Christmas Child, which sends care boxes to needy children worldwide, is set for Sept. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 161 Lutheran Church Rd., Stevenson.

Volunteers who delivered boxes in Uganda in April will be on hand to talk about their four-day experience. Attendees will also brainstorm about ideas for what to include in the boxes. Operation Christmas Child supplies will also be available.

Packed boxes will be dropped off in Hood River or White Salmon Nov. 18-25.
