Groove Project Christmas Dec. 8
If you like a little jazz, or a little groove in your Christmas music then get ready for the Groove Project Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River. It’s the time of year for cool, soulful, jazz-infused renditions of all the Christmas standards.
The band features Tim Mayer (keys), Rick Hulett (guitar), Char Mayer (vocals), Mike Stillman (sax), Ryan McAlexander (bass), Tim Ortlieb (drums) and probably a few more musical friends stopping by. Tickets at the door are $10, $5 for seniors, students and children
Ted Horwitz at Portage Grill
Ted Horwitz is at the piano every Friday and Saturday from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Portage Grill, located in the Shilo Inn Hotel in The Dalles. ‘Needles’ screens Nov. 20
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Cascade Acupuncture Center will screen the powerful film “9000 Needles” at Columbia Center for the Arts starting at 7:30 p.m.
“9000 Needles” follows forty-year-old Devin Dearth who after suffering a devastating stroke, faces dismal odds of recovery, as well as, the confines of the U.S. health care system. In a desperate search for an answer, his community and family rally behind him, raising the necessary funds and support to send Devin on an unconventional journey to China where he will participate in a program which uses acupuncture and other traditional Chinese medicines to treat stroke patients.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Columbia Center for the Arts is located at 215 Cascade Ave. in downtown Hood River.

Black Lillies front man Cruz Contreras knows a thing or two about the road. “Runaway Freeway Blues,” the band’s third studio album, was recorded in Wild Chorus Studio in their hometown of Knoxville. In 2012, they played over 200 gigs, emerging as a band “that’s becoming something of a phenomenon across the country.”

Jess Clemons plays Nov. 16
