Junebug Boys play June 7
“The Junebug Boys pick, stomp and shout their way through the old-timey songbook, with bluegrass, hokum, fiddle tunes and country blues. ‘Landslide’ plays Maupin
Singer-songwriters James Konopasek from Mosier and Mark Malefyt, from Maupin, have joined forces in a newly formed duo — Rockslide. Catch them on Saturday, June 7, at 3 p.m. at Imperial River Company, 304 Bakeoven Road, Maupin, for an after-party show for the Poker Run & Bike Rally. Enjoy an eclectic mix of folk, soft rock, blues and country, plus, a few tunes from Konopasek’s debut CD release “Twisted Country People.” No cover charge.
‘Water’ is the theme for ‘Gorge Artists Create’ show
“Gorge Artists Create” is The Dalles Art Center’s open juried show held each August. This year, the theme is “Water.” Our lives, occupations, entertainment, and recreation are all dependent on, or intimately linked with, water. Think “outside the pond!” This popular show is open to residents of the Mid-Columbia area. Cash prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded as well as People’s Choice. Submissions will be accepted July 15-26, Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. A non-refundable $10 entry fee is requested per submitted piece. There is a maximum of three submissions per artist.
Brothers Gow at River City
Based out of San Diego, Brothers Gow is an eclectic mix of rock, funk, and reggae: expect original music and covers of Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Adele and Stevie Wonder tunes. “Combine the bands energetic stage presence with powerful vocal harmonies, complex arrangements, ripping guitar solos and the band’s awe-inspiring light show, and you get the recipe for a truly memorable concert experience.” Catch the show on Tuesday, June 3, at the River City Saloon. Helping Hands benefit June 1
Help support the Helping Hands organization by attending a dance and music show scheduled for Sunday, June 1, at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River. Dance groups from Columbia Gorge Dance Academy and musicians from Hood River Valley High School performing a cappella and original songs will be on the bill. The all-ages show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 available at Waucoma Bookstore. All proceeds go to Helping Hands — a nonprofit women’s shelter.
Hood 2 River finish line party May 31 features Tony Smiley
Even if you are not competing, come on down to the Hood 2 River finish line at the Marina green on Saturday, May 31, and cheer for your friends, family and other adventurous competitors. The vendor-expo area is open to everyone for food, drink, music and awards.
Full Sail and Naked Winery will be on hand, the Lions Club will be cookin’ up burgers, chicken sausages and veggie options and Tofurky is providing vegan options. Cascade Singers ‘Broadway and Beyond’ May 30-31
“Broadway and Beyond,” the Cascade Singers' 2014 spring concert performances, are Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 31, at 3 p.m. at St. Peter's Landmark Church, W. Third and Lincoln streets, The Dalles. Choral arrangements of Beatles classics and jazz standards are featured, along with favorites from Broadway musicals, Hollywood film scores and “Tin Pan Alley” tunes. Singing groups include adult choir, ensemble, and children’s choir. Suggested donation at the door is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors; children 12 and under free.
Authors visit HR June 6
