Oregon Mandolin Orchestra plays Hood River Feb. 26
The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra is proud to announce their first tour for 2016, and Hood River is on the schedule. Featuring 30 members, including director Brian Oberlin, the orchestra will delve into new territory geographically and musically — with music from Japan, Germany, Italy and the USA. A five-piece percussion ensemble will also join the Orchestra. Catch them on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Riverside Community Church, 317 State. St., Hood River. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15 at door.
Sinfonietta performs Feb. 26
Co-founder of the online Dulcimer School, Stephen Seifert is a nationally recognized master of the mountain dulcimer and lives in Nashville. He will be performing with the Columbia Gorge Sinfonietta on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Wy'east Middle School Performing Arts Center.
‘Paradise Ridge’ CD release at Volcanic March 4
Jim MacMillan, Jerry Keith and Randy Bell announce the release of a new CD, “Paradise Ridge Live,” with a release event at The Volcanic Bottle Shoppe on Friday, March 4, from 6-9 p.m. MacMillan writes in an eclectic Americana Folk style, performing finger style acoustic guitar and vocals. The band has put together an array of songs with Latin, pop, reggae, Eastern European, Middle Eastern and East Indian, folk, blues and R&B influences. All 12 cuts were recorded live with no mix or overdub, all within a three hour afternoon recording session. Volcanic Bottle Shoppe, 1410 12th St., Hood River; 541-436-1226.
‘Big Ronnie’ at Moth Feb. 27
Big Ronnie and Medium Ben return to Moth Lounge to play their signature quirky songs that often include unusual instruments and vocals that harken to a simpler time. Doug MacLeod returns March 11
One of the masters of original acoustic blues, Doug MacLeod returns to The Pines Tasting Room on Friday, March 11. Voted the Best Acoustic Player & Album in 2014, MacLeod has three blues music nominations for 2016 including Acoustic Album of the Year, Acoustic Artist of the Year and Song of the Year “You Got it Good (and That Ain’t Bad).” Music starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 available at The Pines and Waucoma Bookstore.

Tongue Twister returns Feb. 26
Local celebrities and five students aged 11 to 25 will compete in the sixth annual Tongue Twister Tournament on Feb. 26, a benefit for Hood River County Start Making A Reader Today (SMART). Tickets are $10 and available at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m., event starts at 7 p.m.
The event will be in a new location — Butler Bank building, also known as Venue 301, at 301 Oak St.
The event is open to the public. In the SMART program, volunteers spend time each week reading one-on-one with kids in K-3. Each child gets two books to keep each month, to go with getting to know and love books with the caring companionship of an adult.
