The 27th annual CROP Hunger Walk is this Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning and ending at Hood River Valley Christian Church, 975 Indian Creek Road, with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m., and a free hot dog lunch, hosted by the CROP Walk steering committee, will await participants upon their return.
New this year, participants can bring in canned items in lieu of monetary pledges to be distributed to local food banks. The event raises money to fight global hunger, with 25 percent of the proceeds going to FISH Food Bank in Hood River and Washington Gorge Action Program Food Bank in White Salmon.

‘Our Whole Lives’ at Riverside
Riverside Community Church, UCC, in conjunction with Bethel United Church of Christ, is offering Our Whole Lives (OWL), an award-winning sexual health program which helps 7th-9th grade students make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior.

Warming Shelter trainings
Hood River Warming Shelter returns for its sixth season Nov. 15, and volunteers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering (new or returning) must attend one of the following training sessions at The Fruit Tree building on Westcliff Drive, the shelter’s new site: Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 to 11:30 a.m.; or Wednesday, Oct. 28, 6:30 to 9 p.m. For details contact Rev. Free clothes for kids at St. Marks
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of 11th and Eugene, will again hold their free clothes for kids event on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations of new or gently used clothing items are currently being accepted.
