HOOD RIVER — A Valentine’s Day jazz dance is set for Feb. 14, 7 p.m. at The Ruins, 13 Railroad Street. The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association (CGOA) Jazz Collective, directed by Michael Paul, invites couples and music lovers to step back in time for a romantic evening of big band swing.
This performance promises to transform The Ruins into a sophisticated jazz venue, where the CGOA Jazz Collective will perform timeless classics from the greatest names in jazz and big band history. The program includes Stan Kenton’s tender rendition of “My Funny Valentine,” Benny Goodman’s “Bei Mir Bist Du Schön,” and Arturo Sandoval’s “Mambo Caliente.”
“We’re excited to bring these legendary pieces to life and create a memorable Valentine’s Day experience,” said Paul. “From the sultry sounds of ‘New York, New York’ to the modern jazz fusion of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Cantaloupe Island,’ we’re offering a musical journey that spans the greatest eras of jazz.”
Guests can snap a photo at the selfie station, Boda’s Kitchen provides sweet and savory chocolate desserts. Tickets online at gorgeorchestra.org.
