The Dalles – Since the beginning of the current storm event City crews have been hard at work plowing and sanding streets. When crews are working around the clock, you may encounter operating equipment while driving or walking. Please take the following steps to provide for the safe flow of traffic and protection of property during snow plowing and sanding activities.
Drivers:
Keep a 200-foot or half of a city block following distance behind operating equipment.
If you see a snowplow or sand truck approaching, turn onto a side street and wait for operating equipment to pass. The sand spreader is designed to apply sand within the traffic lane, but sand and rock may bounce into the oncoming lane.
Snow on cars parked on city streets should be removed so that plow operators will see the car. The sand spreader is designed to apply sand within the traffic lane, but sand and rock may bounce onto cars parked on city streets.
Pedestrians:
Pedestrians and children should stay at least one block away from operating snow removal and sanding equipment. If you are walking on the same route as the equipment, turn onto a side street and wait for operating equipment to pass.
Do not allow children to play on or around open streets during or after a snowstorm.
The City’s work improves the safety of streets during winter weather conditions, but these efforts are not intended to replace proper use of traction tires or devices and safe winter weather driving practices.
