HOOD RIVER — Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” is more than a beloved classic, said Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS) Theater Teacher Jennifer Graves.
“At its heart, it is a tale of family, love, loss, ambition, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood,” she said.
It’s also the theater department’s spring play.
Shows begin this Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 7 p.m. at the HRVHS Bowe Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, and can be purchased at the door or online at www.ticketleap.events/tickets/hrvhstheatre/little-women.
The play continues Feb. 22, Feb. 27-28 and March 1 at 7 p.m., and Feb. 23 and March 1 at 2 p.m.
In the cast are faces you’ll recognize from past HRVHS productions. In the lead roles are Josie Robidoux as Jo, Addison Wagner (understudy Talia Cox) as Meg, Finley Smith (understudy Daisy Jones) as Beth, and Siva Dassel (understudy Claire Monroe) as Amy. Mya VanKoten (understudy Kaitlyn DeHart) plays Marmie, with Mack Yasui (understudy Enrique Chavez) as Laurie and Cooper Yasui as Mr. Laurence. Abby Carsley plays the adult Josephine March.
“In many ways, ‘Little Women’ reflects the journey of theater itself — a gathering of individuals, each with their own dreams and strengths, coming together to create something greater than themselves,” said Graves. “The resilience of Jo, the kindness of Beth, the grace of Meg, and the passion of Amy remind us that there is no singular way to have a meaningful life. Their story challenges us to hold onto hope, to embrace change, and to celebrate the moments, big and small, that shape who we are.”
