On First Friday, the Columbia Art Gallery brings an edgy and modern art exhibition to Hood River.
"Urban Art, A Cultural Exploration" is a show of unique artistry and inspiration and will be on display in the center's art gallery beginning July 1, with a reception from 6-8 p.m.
Show Curator Michelle Yamamoto said, "With works created by artists from throughout the United States, this exhibit will feature a large range of artistic styles that powerfully express the artists' visions of our country's youth culture and its relationship with industrial/urban decay. The works also explore the themes of personal relationships, music, technology, and whimsy in their quest to convey both the inspiring and challenging aspects of living in the urban landscape of modern culture."
Show artists include: Forest Andrews, AJ Power, C.J. Rench, Doug Forrester, Emily Haggar, Jeff DeNomme, Hanna Boone, Lee Eire, Mark Nilsson, Michelle Yamamoto, Taka Sudo.
First Friday will feature hip-hop dancing, a chalk art contest, and live graffiti mural art by Redbull event artist Doug Forrest.
"Urban Art, A Cultural Exploration" is dedicated to Forest Andrews, an artist and student who recently passed away. His work will be shown in the lobby of the gallery.
