The Gorge Bulldogs, White Salmon's under-16 boys soccer team, completed an undefeated season last Saturday with a shutout of Vancouver's Surge.
The Bulldogs' 10-match record in the Vancouver ECYSA soccer league was 8-0-2. During the season the 'Dogs' potent offense outscored the opposition 63 goals to 7.
Matt Lovrin, Alex Villa and Samuel Lachino controlled the inside midfield and were supported throughout the season by Dave Giron, Juan Ramirez, Jesus Mendoza and Hector Martinez.
Alec Asbridge, Julio Escoto, Demi Sanchez and Colby Richards added creativity in the forward positions.
"This team is exciting to watch because they control the ball and coordinate their efforts in a variety of attack situations," noted Tom Butler, who shares coaching duties with Hal Ueland.
Goalie Juan Benavides' confident play and strong defensive efforts by Marci Garcia, Balam Maya, Dane Ueland, Whitney Butler and Antonio Hernandez were evident throughout as the Bulldogs recorded seven shutouts.
"The Bulldogs are very stingy with goals scored on them. They believe they can't lose if the other team doesn't score," Butler said.
Coaches Butler and Ueland will take this talented team to compete in the President's Cup State Finals, Dec. 7-8, in Monroe.
