Next Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day; a legal holiday honoring all veterans of the armed forces of the United States.
There are no formal dedications in the White Salmon-Bingen area, other than the traditional Veterans Day dinner on that day for American Legion members and their guests. The dinner will be at the Elks Lodge in White Salmon, starting at 6 p.m.
There will be an observance in Hood River, however. The event will start at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Hood River Armory at 1590 12th Street.
The keynote speaker for this event will be National Guard Capt. Christopher Warren, who has served two recent tours of duty -- one in Afghanistan and the other in Iraq.
Warren will share lessons from the battlefield.
Jack Trumbull, a former Army reservist and owner of Anderson's Tribute Center, will act as master of ceremonies.
The program will include a DVD montage of soldiers in the Hood River unit helping citizens in Hurricane Katrina and on active duty in the Middle East. The presentation of colors and rifle salute will be performed by local soldiers.
Prior to the ceremony, a Veterans Day breakfast will be hosted by American Legion Post No. 22 and Elks Lodge No. 1507, from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Lodge, which is at 304 Cascade Avenue in Hood River.
