A former Glenwood High School track star is making her second appearance at the NAIA Championships in Vancouver this weekend. Neola Putnam, the daughter of Nate and Betsy Putnam, came in 10th at the American Mideast Conference Women's Cross Country Championship in Houghton, N.Y., on Nov. 6. Miss Putnam completed a personal-best time of 18:35 at the end of the 5,000 meter course to qualify her for a second trip to Vancouver. Neola is a member of the women's cross country at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets women's team is ranked #12, and the men's team is ranked #21 going into the NAIA Championships featuring 32 women's and 32 men's teams. Neola is scheduled to run at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Fort Vancouver Historic Site. Best wishes Neola as you continue your national-level competition. We are cheering for you!
Klickitat County was well represented at the State B High School Volleyball Tournament at the Sun Dome in Yakima Nov. 11 and 12. TLG and Klickitat both qualified to compete in state-level play. TLG won their first round, but lost their second and third games in the double-elimination tournament. Klickitat high's team, under the leadership of Coach Jaecee Hoctor, brought home the eighth place trophy at the end of the tournament. Congratulations to both the TLG and the Klickitat High School Volleyball teams on the completion of outstanding seasons.
The Klickitat County Fair Board is holding its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at The American Legion in Goldendale. If you were a volunteer, in any capacity, during the 2010 Klickitat County Fair and Rodeo, you are invited to enjoy an entertaining evening and a free dinner. This coming Sunday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m., the Pioneer Memorial Community Church is hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the school. Turkey, ham and rolls will be provided and everything else is potluck. Last names beginning with A-H: bring hot side dishes; I-P: cold sides or salads; Q-Z: desserts. Even if you can't bring something, you are welcome to eat. We hope to see you there!
Glenwood Grange will hold its monthly meeting Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at the grange hall. Annual elections will be held. Five new members were welcomed at the last meeting, Lela Ward was recognized for her 50 years service as grange treasurer.
