The error of their ways

"We had some great pitching in these two games, but our defense let us down," Cougars Coach David Barthlow said. "That's something we'll have to work on before league starts on March 27."

Lyle made seven errors in the opener, wasting a strong performance by senior Mitzi McMurrin.

The right-hander allowed seven hits, walked none and struck out 10 in six innings of work.

McMurrin yielded two runs in the bottom of the first, but followed Hannah Jackson's run-scoring single with a triple to tie the game at 2 in the top of the third.

Jackson and McMurrin both had two hits. Heather Bremer, Mary Maeder and Dawn Ullom each had one.

Entiat scored three times in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

In game two, Entiat chased McMurrin in the second inning, pushing six runs across homeplate for a 7-0 lead.

Senior Kristin Brown came on in relief and limited Entiat to four runs the rest of the way.

But Lyle could only muster one run in reply on an RBI double by Ullom in the top of the third.

Ullom went 2 for 4. Becky Rider and Joelle Jackson each had one hit.
