The Underwood Conservation District (UCD) in White Salmon announces its "UCD Big & Unique Tree Contest," which will culminate on Arbor Day, April 10.
The UCD invites youths and adults alike to enter into the big and unique living tree contest.
The categories selected are: best wildlife habitat tree, best fish habitat enhancement tree, the biggest native conifer, the biggest native hardwood, and the biggest nonnative urban or rural tree.
These trees can be found anywhere within the UCD, which includes Skamania County and the western third of Klickitat County.
If the trees are on private land, landowner's permission must be obtained before entering the property to measure the trees.
Prizes will include museum passes, excellent tree resource books, tree seedlings, bird boxes and more.
Each entrant needs to measure the tree's diameter, 4.5 feet from level ground, give a description of the tree location, receive landowner's permission if on private land, and include a name and telephone number. Also include which category the tree is being nominated for.
The winning trees in each category will be selected by a verification team, including the UCD, a local resource professional and the nominator.

The contest is partially funded from the proceeds of the UCD Tree Sales Program.
