Teresa Schuemann's got her passport and visa, and her bags are almost packed for a trip to Beijing, China, and the University Games, which take place later this month.
Schuemann, a sports physical therapist and certified athletic trainÿer who lives in Bingen, will travel to the Far East as a member of the U.S. Sports Medicine Team that will accompany U.S. athletes. Schuemman departs Aug. 15 and will be in China until the University Games close on Sept. 1.
The games, an annual international sporting competition, are similar to the Olympics but
different in one important aspect: they are open only to university student-athletes.
As a member of the U.S. Sports Medicine Team, Schuemann, a member of Skyline Hospital's Physical Therapy staff, will have responsibilities for the care and treatment primarily of the U.S. women's swim team.
But Schuemann also will help out in the U.S. sports medicine complex, and be available to treat any U.S. athlete when the swim team isn't practicing or competing.
