Pro Baseball:
Kyler Riggleman, 10, of White Salmon was selected by drawing to be an Honorary Seattle Mariner on Kids' Appreciation Day, on Sunday at Safeco Field. Riggleman was one of nine kids picked for the honor.
At the start of the Mariners' final game of the 2007 season against the Texas Rangers, each youngster took a position on the field, followed by the real Mariners. Each youngster received an autographed baseball from the player he was replaced by.
Riggleman's position was center field, so he received a signed ball from All-Star Ichiro Suzuki.
And the game? The Mariners beat the Rangers, 4-2.
Golf:
The foursome of Josh Yarnell, Matt Graves, David Janney and Matthew Carlock won last Saturday's ninth annual Mark Hennelly Science Scholarship Golf Tournament at Husum Hills with a 6-under par score of 29.
Individual honors during the nine-hole, four-player scramble went to Steve Morgan (men's long drive), Jill Morgan (women's long drive), Alan Newman (men's closest to pin) and Christine Pfister (women's closest to pin).
The biggest winner of all, however, was the Mark Hennelly Science Scholarship Fund, which netted approximately $1,900, according to scholarship committee member Steve Larsen.
The Hennelly Science Scholarship is awarded in the spring to Columbia High School students who are going on to college or technical school to study science or math.
Outdoor Recreation:
The Klickitat Trail Conservancy will celebrate its fifth anniversary this Saturday with hikes, a bike ride and a free luncheon in the Klickitat School's multipurpose room.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a hike from Lyle to Fisher Hill Bridge or from Lyle to Pitt, or a bike ride through Swale Creek Canyon. Afterward, lunch will be served from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Winter Sports:
As part of its 40th anniversary, Mt. Hood Meadows is giving away a season pass for the most-complete season picture pass collection.
According to a news release, only passes of the same person are eligible for the contest. Moreover, Meadows employee passes can make up only half the collection.
To be considered for the pass giveaway, collections must be presented at the ski resort by Nov. 1.
"The most complete collection wins a season pass for this anniversary season, and an invite for two to our gala anniversary celebration dinner in January," the release noted.
Prep Football:
Tanner Milliren ran for two touchdowns and Nick Dohrman rushed for 132 yards last Friday as Goldendale snapped a three-game losing streak with a 15-7 victory over previously unbeaten Cle Elum.
Milliren scored his second touchdown from 8 yards out to cap a fourth quarter drive that undid a 7-7 tie. He also ran for the 2-point conversion to give the host Timberwolves (1-1, 2-3) an eight-point lead in the SCAC West Division contest, which was scoreless at halftime.
Milliren finished with 72 yards on the ground and also passed for 92 yards. Kyle Hamilton added 66 rushing yards for Goldendale, which totaled 362 yards of offense. The T-wolves' defense held Cle Elum to 152 yards.
More Prep Football:
Stevenson fell to 0-5 on the season last Friday, losing its Trico Division game at Castle Rock, 55-6.
The Rockets (1-1, 4-1) had 502 yards of offense on a night their defense tallied seven quarterback sacks and five interceptions, blocked a field goal attempt and held the Bulldogs (0-2, 0-5) to minus-36 yards rushing.
Prep Cross Country:
Klickitat senior Herschel Sanchey posted the eighth-fastest time in his flight last Saturday at the SunFair Invitational in Yakima. Sanchey's time was 16 minutes, 3 seconds--50 seconds behind overall boys top finisher Miles Unterreiner of Gig Harbor.
In the girls meet, Glenwood junior Neola Putnam ran the course in 19 minutes, 36 minutes, for ninth place in her flight. Overall winner Ruby Roberts of Kingston finished in 18:01.
Prep Girls Soccer:
La Salle of Yakima blanked Goldendale, 9-0, in a South Central Athletic Conference West Division match last Saturday in Goldendale. Hailey Darnielle had 15 saves for the Timberwolves (0-7).
