Hood River County is expected to pick up 1-4 inches by Friday at the river level, with 6-10 inches in the upper valley and Parkdale.
A light snow fell Monday night, blanketing the ground, but leaving streets in downtown Hood River relatively clear due to temperatures above freezing.
Wet conditions will characterize the week, according to National Weather Service. The Gorge could see .1 to .3 inch of liquid equivalent. Highs are estimated at 37 degrees, while lows dip to 22.
There will be chances of snow Tuesday, with colder temperatures and snow “likely” Wednesday evening and night.
The new bout of winter weather could pose challenges for local work crews, who have battled fallen tree debris, as well as stacked snow that was beginning to thaw over the last week. For instance, crews were busy in Cascade Locks Monday, pushing aside great mounds of branches at Marine Park. A tall tree crashed down near the mountain lion statue, which had to be sawed and removed by crews.
The NWS predictes that the worst weather will be over by Friday evening.
“It appears that the transition out of the winter weather for areas west of the Columbia River Gorge will likely occur Friday, with additional snow or freezing rain possible Thursday night and Friday morning before the transition finishes in the valleys,” NWS said in a news release.
