Well, after that last ice storm passed through, it was difficult to believe that a Chinook wind would come along and thaw out our canyon so quickly, but it did! The Klickitat River is running like chocolate in a rolling boil. It almost looks angry with the size of those waves going over the boulders! Have you seen the eagles perched on the leafless snags? You have to look close because their feathers are blending in so well with the battered and saturated trees, but those magnificent white heads and tails are a dead giveaway. The deer are looking like fatted calves with all the acorns to munch and the relatively mild winter. It's nice to live in such a beautiful place as the Klickitat Canyon!
The news for this time centers around the upcoming annual election for the Klickitat Community Council. There will be a sign up sheet for those interested in running for the open seats and it will be located at the Klickitat Post Office. Serious contenders willing to volunteer their time and participate actively in the improvement of our community should sign up. We are looking for people who are interested in making Klickitat an even better place to live, so give it some thought. The election will be held at the Klickitat Fire Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., so don't forget to stop in there and vote.
This Thursday, Jan. 27, the Klickitat County EDA will be holding its meeting at the courthouse in Goldendale, beginning at 6 p.m. for those interested in attending. The purpose of this meeting is for the EDA board to hear from the various communities by way of their officially recognized representatives with respect to their planned projects needing funding assistance. If you want to know what's going on in the different places all around the county, this is a great meeting to attend. It's not an opportunity for public input by the observers, but it is interesting to watch how the neighboring communities rally in support of each other's needs.
