Stevenson's late rally spoiled a sparkling pitching debut by the Cougars' Mike Eiesland.

"Mike had a one-hit shutout until the seventh, and he made one bad pitch the whole game: a full-count fastball that [Stevenson] hit for the two-run double," said Cougars Coach Scott Myers.

Eiesland finished with a line of four hits, one walk, four strikeouts and two earned runs in seven innings.

Stevenson's Tyler Nielson matched Eiesland, however, scattering eight hits, walking one and striking out seven for the complete-game win.

In fact, it was a pitcher's game until the last two innings.

The Cougars (1-1) put up the game's first run in the last of the sixth when Eiesland singled to drive in Cord Cothren from second.

In the opener, Lyle scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 7-4 deficit. It added five runs in the sixth for a 13-7 lead.

Cothren and Eiesland each went 2 for 5 and drove in three runs to spearhead a nine-hit attack that produced 11 earned runs.

Chris Wolff added an RBI double and Brady Huffman and Noah LaFrenz both had two hits.

The win went to Cothren, who "pitched well," according to Myers, even though his defense committed 10 errors. Cothren held Stevenson to seven hits and one earned run, struck out nine and left 12 runners on base.
