The March exhibit in the White Salmon Valley Community Library's Sprint/Baker Gallery will feature works by local photographer, Liza Carlson.
The show titled "Identify: Photographs," examines the uncanny similarities that occur in human behavior the world over. Have you ever wondered if anyone else feels as you do? Have you ever thought that you're the only person on the planet that behaves in a certain way?
The 34 photographs, hung in pairs, look at those sorts of feelings, questions and connections. The shots, taken in 24 distinct geographical areas of Europe and the United States, illustrate to the viewer how similar we really are.
Carlson, who was born and raised in Portland, Ore., started out working as a zookeeper. She found that the behaviors of the animals in her care were what fascinated her the most, and that a camera was the most effective way to capture those behaviors. She hasn't put the camera down since.
Although primarily self-taught, Carlson has also studied at Marylhurst University in Portland and has taken multiple classes at the Maine Media Workshops with instructors at the top of the field.
