A group that formed last year to tackle issues facing the homeless is planning an event in late January to provide a range of services for them, including veterinarian care for their pets. Called “The Community Connection,” the day-long event is slated for Wednesday, Jan. 30, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the basement of the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W. 9th St., The Dalles.
Rack one up for the return of dry cleaning service to The Dalles and Hood River. MariBeth and Joe Guenther opened Dry Cleaner Connections this month at 1301 12th St. in Hood River, which is located next to The Mesquitery/The Shed. In June, the Guenthers will open a Dry Cleaner Connection location in The Dalles at 208 E. Fourth Street.
To the editor: In your article “Garbage burns at county landfill” there was a major aspect that you totally ignored. Saturday morning we awoke to the horrible smell of toxic burning garbage, even though we live over a mile away from the landfill.
Although it’s not exactly the route they were looking for, the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District has applied to the City of Hood River Planning Department to extend a portion of the Indian Creek Trail that lies behind the Columbia Gorge Community College Indian Creek campus.
