Below average precipitation and above average temperatures have brought record snowmelt over the last several weeks, and weather forecasters are concerned about the impact across the region later this year.

According to Scott Pattee, a water supply specialist for the Washington Snow Survey Office in Mt. Vernon, conditions have deteriorated since April 1. Since then, Pattee pointed out that there has been an average daily snowpack loss of about one percent -- more common for the month of May rather than April.
