Over 50 interested visitors spent several hours viewing the Twin Bridges Museum's exhibits and reminisced with others about names, dates and events of the area. Several brought items to donate while others brought pictures to display. They came from as far away as Vancouver and as close as across the street. All in all it was a fun evening to kick off the museum sponsorships. Many participated and their names will be put on the plaque that will be on permanent display. Cake and root beer floats were enjoyed by all. The museum trustees thank all who came and hope to hold a second open house in the fall or winter.
Joy Collins has spent many hours redoing the flower bed at the entrance of the museum and also nursing the fica tree back to good health. She certainly has a green thumb that she has put to use to the benefit of the community.
If you haven't noticed the new protective railing around the playground area at Lyle Park Place you need to go by. New sawdust is also down and the little kids can once again enjoy a safe time in the playground and on the swings. Thanks Barbara and Terry Mills for your hard work on this project!
Development of the Lyle area (author unknown. Description that follows is about several pictures on display at the museum): "A street scene in old Lyle south of the railroad shows the post office, Sorenson's store the Riverside Hotel and numerous other buildings."
"In July, 1911 a brick bank building was erected on the corner of 6th and Washington St. L.H. Lawson was the first banker and S.R. Sorensen, assistant cashier. A hardware store is being constructed on the left of the picture beside the bank building. "
"A large building on the left of the depot was a rooming house for railroaders and the depot in center right with a small house for display of apples from the Lyle area. A large water tank is located west of the depot and the well is still being used for the Lyle water system."
A hug is a great gift...one size fits all, it can be given for any occasion and it's easy to exchange.
