JOHN TIFFANY SR.
John Alfred Tiffany, Sr., White Salmon, died in The Dalles, Ore., on Oct. 2, 2006 at the age of 82. He was born in Bellingham on Nov. 9, 1923, the son of Emma (Hardy) and Ross Tiffany.
Mr. Tiffany grew up in Laurel, just outside of Bellingham. He joined the Army in 1944, serving his country until his honorable discharge on Feb. 18, 1949. While working as a cook at a restaurant, Mr. Tiffany met a pretty young waitress named Juanita Martin. The couple married on Jan. 1, 1953, in Blaine. They shared 53 years together and were by each other's side the entire time. Mr. Tiffany worked for a time as a coal miner while in Bellingham, but mostly he was a timber faller for Broughton Lumber Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Tiffany loved riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed deep sea fishing, which they did together, sometimes commercially. Mr. Tiffany also loved his flower garden where anything that didn't bloom got weeded out. He was the best husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to everybody.
Mr. Tiffany is survived by his loving wife, Juanita, White Salmon; daughters Mary Wilson, Mosier, Ore., Judy Dupree, Port Angeles, and Cathy Minnich, South Jordan, Utah; sons Michael Tiffany, White Salmon and John Tiffany, Appleton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Tiffany, Sr. were held on Saturday, Oct., 7 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Gardner Funeral Home, with Father Ron Maag officiating. Interment was held at the White Salmon Cemetery.

MINNIE SCHMID
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Presbyterian Church in Trout Lake for Minnie Elizabeth Schmid, who died in Pendleton, Ore., on Oct. 3, 2006, at the age of 89. She was born on Oct. 13, 1916, in Portland, Ore., to John and Mathilda Raymond.
Mrs. Schmid was a long-time resident of Trout Lake. Before becoming a homemaker and wife, she worked in restaurants and as a postmistress. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and was president for a number of years. She was also active in the Quilt Group and Saturday Market. Mrs. Schmid won many awards for her needlework that was submitted at the local fair. She was known as a wonderful cook and baker. Mrs. Schmid was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was the beloved wife of Walter Schmid, who preceded her in death, and also the last surviving sibling of four. She is survived by her daughters, Wannetta Fleming, Vancouver, and Barbara C. Fleming, Pendleton, Ore.; six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She will be laid to rest next to Walter in the Trout Lake Cemetery.

BERNARD MURPHY
With family close by his side, Bernard C. Murphy died on Oct. 8, 2006, at his home in Olympia. Mr. Murphy was born in Wallace, Idaho, on April 7, 1935.
He graduated from Wallace High School in 1954, served two years in the United States Army, graduated from University of Idaho in 1960 with a degree in forestry. He retired from Washington State Department of Natural Resources, with many years spent as district manager of Klickitat County. He later worked in land development and real estate for The Tacoma Land Company.
Mr. Murphy was an avid photographer, accomplished musician, graceful skier, and an up and coming golfer.
He is survived by Carla Roe, Olympia; former wife, Anna Murphy, White Salmon; brother Dan Murphy, Kingston, Idaho; seven children: Mike Murphy, White Salmon, Edward Murphy, Maui, Hawaii, Elizabeth Green, Willard, Mary Kanitz, Portland, Or., Rose Murphy, Boston, Mass., Joseph Murphy, Ferndale, and Nicholas Murphy, Carson; and 13 grandchildren.
Mr. Murphy will be remembered for his quiet dignity and the grace with which he faced prostate cancer. His optimistic attitude and courage was a tremendous encouragement to many around him.
Services will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wallace, Idaho, on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at 11 a.m. with reception following at the Wallace Elks Lodge.

HILLARY RODGERS
Hillary Robin Rodgers, 23, died Oct. 6, 2006, in Cheney. She was born Oct. 16, 1982, in White Salmon, to Lonny and Linda Rodgers.
During high school, Ms. Rodgers competed in power lifting and was the Washington State High School Women's Champion for power lifting two years in a row. She graduated from Columbia High School in 2001.
Ms. Rodgers started firefighting with the Forest Service right after graduation. She began attending Eastern Washington University in 2001. She was studying Social Work and was about to complete her bachelor's degree.
She was an active member of the Spokane Christian Church and was baptized on March 6, 2005. She had so many close friends and her personality and love for others shined. She also loved the outdoors and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Linda Rodgers and Stephen Bronsveld; her father and step-mother, Lonny and Yvonne Rodgers; her brother Forest Rodgers; two step-siblings, Sally and Jeff Muir; her grandparents, Dorothy and Bob Campbell, and grandfather Robert Tribou, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her grandmother, Maebelle and her Uncle Mike preceded her in death.
Memorials can be made to advance the research of epilepsy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Underwood Community Center. She will be deeply missed.
