HAROLD BRACK SR.
Harold David Brack, Sr. was born on a farm in the Oak Flat area east of Goldendale on Oct. 20, 1920, to Chester and Edith (Parker) Brack. He passed away in The Dalles, Ore., Nov. 12, 2011, at the age of 91.
Harold attended school until the 10th grade but when his brothers went to fight in the war Harold had to quit school to help on the family farm. Throughout his life, Mr. Brack worked in farming and at various sawmill and timber jobs until his retirement.
Harold was a rodeo bum who loved to follow the sport. He got great enjoyment out of hunting and fishing with his family.
Survivors include his children Sandy Hayden of Klickitat, Harold D. Brack, Jr. of Mabton, Susan Lyons of Oklahoma and Dale Brack of Goldendale; one sister, two brothers, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Kelly.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home. At his request there will be no funeral.
TWILA HOWELL
Twila (69) of Dallesport passed away at Providence Medical Center, Portland, Ore., of leukemia on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011.
Twila is the oldest of three children, who grew up in Yakima, where she attended Eisenhower High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Twila married Kenneth Howell on March 30, 1969 in Stevenson. They resided in Klickitat, where they lived for 28 years, and tehn moved to Dallesport.
Twila worked for 25 years as the operations manager at the Washington State Employment Security office in Bingen-White Salmon.
Twila was an active member of Grace Lutheran in Klickitat, and then Faith Lutheran in The Dalles. Twila gladly served as a secretary on the Church council, treasurer, was also a long time member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) and her local Thrivent Chapter.
Twila was an avid reader; she enjoyed working in their yard and garden. Twila also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and went on numerous camping trips where she played cards and games with her family and friends.
Twila is survived by her husband of 42 years Kenneth Howell; a son Robert M. Howell, his wife Linh and grand-daughter Lindsey; a daughter Cristal D. Waetzig, her husband Todd, grand-daughters Heather and Chelsea; step-daughter Lianne Ames and husband Rob; two grandsons and numerous step-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Viola Shanklin and Ruth Fischer; and her half-brothers Fred and George Forker, and a half-sister Hazel Morrison.
A service will be held at Faith Lutheran (2810 West 10th St.; The Dalles, Ore.) on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. The service will be officiated by John Westhafer.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Portland, Ore.
ROSEMARY PATTERSON
Rosemary Jane (Murray) Murrow Patterson passed away Nov. 12, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 22, 1937, in The Dalles, Ore., to Howard Lewis (Tye) Murray, Sr. and Flora Juanita Porter Murray. She grew up in Glenwood on the family ranch with her brother Bubs, where her Dad raised cattle and logged and her mother taught school. She was the youngest of eight graduates from Glenwood High School in 1955 and went on to Central Washington College where she met her first husband Willard Murrow.
They moved to the Seattle area, living in Issaquah, where her daughter, Shawn and son, Ross were born. She worked at Bar-S and at an accounting firm while raising her family. She was an amazing and devoted mother, running her kids to school, sports and Glenwood whenever they could talk her into it.
In 1974, the family moved to Chewelah where she worked as a bookkeeper. She later went to work as the personnel manager for Arden Lumber Co (Plumcreek). Around 1982, she accepted a position with ESD #123 in Walla Walla as administrator, Worker's Compensation Trust where she retired in 2000.
Rosemary met Les Patterson at the Glenwood Rodeo and they married in 1985. They spent the next 25 years together, putting on bulldogging events, hauling stock to rodeos, spending time running around with their grandkids and taking care of each other. They attended the National Finals Rodeo the first year they were married and went every year after that.
She loved following sports, especially attending rodeos, football and basketball games of her grandson Royce. She was a longtime fan of the CBC Lady Hawks Basketball team, cheering them on at home and away games. Rosemary was "Mom" to many cowboys and cowgirls traveling down the road and was always happy to give them a home cooked meal and a place to stay when they stopped by the ranch.
She was preceded in death by her husband Les Patterson and her parents, Tye and Flora Murray.
Rosemary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ross and JoAnn Murrow, and grandson Royce, her daughter Shawn, all of Pasco, brother and sister-in-law Bubs and Marlene Murray (Glenwood), a large extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear friends.
Memorial services will be held at Riverview Methodist Church, Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 1 p.m. Interment services will be at Glenwood, on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at 1 p.m.
