FANNIE MILLIGAN
Fannie Leona Milligan of Hood River, Ore., went home to be with her Lord on Oct. 23, 2012, at the age of 91. Fannie was born in Jackson County, N.C. on May 31, 1921, to John and Belva Chasteen.
When Fannie was seven years old, she moved with her family to Fremont County, Idaho, after the death of her father. As a young adult, Fannie worked in potatoes, grain fields and eventually in a dry cleaning business in Ashton.
On March 29, 1957 Fannie married Roy Milligan. White Salmon became their new home town in 1963.
When Fannie's youngest daughter started school, she went to work for Diamond Fruit Growers in Hood River, Ore. When she retired from The Cannery, Fannie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In 1987 Fannie became a member of the White Salmon Christian Assembly Church. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 100.
In April 2002 Fannie moved to Hood River, Ore., to be closer to her daughter. With her declining health in the last few years she was no longer able to attend church.
Fannie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Hymon Chasteen and Thad Chasteen and sisters Amer Shults, Mary Rankin and Velma Brooks.
Fannie is survived by her daughters Brenda (Ron) Gilderhus of Washougal and Janice (Cary) Meeks of Hood River, Ore.; grandchildren Ronnie (Marianne) Gilderhus of Washougal, Amber (Steve) Hoard of Vancouver; great grandchildren Ronnie and Libby Gilderhus of Washougal and Logan, Anthony, Kaden and Mya Hoard of Vancouver; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Fannie had many wonderful friends at Dethman Manor where she resided. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a warm, loving and compassionate person, always thinking of others. She will be greatly missed.
At the request of the family there was no service. Burial was at White Salmon Cemetery under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home.
JEANETTE REMOLE
Jeanette (Jinny) Elizabeth Neils Remole passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Jinny was born on April 23, 1930, to Gerhard F. and Selma Swan Neils. She was raised in Klickitat, the youngest of three children. She attended the University of Washington where she belonged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She graduated in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree.
Upon graduation she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the State Department and met her future husband of 60 years: Robert (Bob) A. Remole. Together they lived and traveled the globe for the U.S. Foreign Service. They served in South Yemen, Germany, Mali, Malawi, Uganda, Martinique, and The Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Upon retirement in 1979, they split their time between homes in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Randle. They enjoyed continual travel adventures to the South Pacific, New Zealand, Central America, the Middle East, Western and Eastern Europe, and throughout the United States.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bob Remole; two siblings, Barbara Street and Gerhard (Jerry) F. Neils Jr.; four children Eric Remole, Kristin LesClide, Margit Peiffle, Brigitta Remole; and 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service in celebration of her life was held on Monday Oct. 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church by the Narrows, 6730 North 17th Street, Tacoma, 98406.

RITA WHITE
Rita Joy Kruse White, 57, of Underwood, died from a stroke on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Portland, Ore.
Rita was born on March 1, 1955 in Rawlins, Wyo., to Ben and Pauline Kruse. She was their fourth child.
Rita attended elementary, middle and high school in Saratoga, Wyo. She received a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a Masters degree in educational foundations from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo.
Rita taught elementary school in Nampa, Idaho, for 10 years following graduation. She then moved to Gillette, Wyo., where she met and married Dale White on Oct. 27, 1995.
Rita and Dale moved to White Salmon in 1996 where she taught at the Alternative High School and then as a substitute teacher at Columbia High School in White Salmon until her death.
In 2005, Rita and Dale moved to Underwood and began Underwood Alpacas, an alpaca ranch that has grown from six to 48 alpacas. Rita was a lifelong lover of animals, beginning as a child collecting tadpoles, mice and ducks. Her life was enriched with many pets over the years. She adored her alpacas; three dogs, four cats and her horse "Challenger" made up the rest of the family at the ranch. Chally died at the age of 29 just two weeks earlier.
Rita is survived by her husband Dale, brother Robert (Lola) Kruse of Broken Arrow, Okla., sister Dianne (Ken) Hickey of Nampa, Idaho, and sister Sheila (Doug) O'Neil of Clearmont, Wyo., and, in-laws Randy and Beverly White and Doug White of Gillette, Wyo. She has two nieces, four nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and sister-in-law Pam White.
A celebration of Rita's life will be held in the gymnasium at Columbia High School in White Salmon at 2 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2012.
Burial services will be held in Saratoga, Wyo., next spring.
The family asks for contributions in her memory to the Rita Memorial Fund at Sterling Bank, 73 N.E. Estes St., White Salmon, Wash. 98672. Donations will benefit the Columbia High School soccer team through a boys and girls scholarship program Rita established two years ago.
