There's a new purple presence on Second Street in Stevenson, and it's designed to bring together artists and art lovers.
The Avenue Gallery, owned by Gretchen L'Hommedieu and Kay Hoodenpyl, opened on Dec. 19.
The business has nearly 2,000 square feet of display space which includes: the main showroom with gallery lighting, movable walls and pedestals; an espresso bar with bistro seating; and a gift gallery lined with art and quality crafted items.
According to the owners, "There is a wealth of artistic talent in our area that is underserved by lack of galleries and opportunities on the Washington side of the Gorge."
The gallery's object is to "promote the fine artwork of artists of the Gorge and the Northwest region through exhibits, events, workshops, and sales, and to enrich and foster artistic growth" in the area.
The gallery continues to select pieces submitted by local and regional artists for display in the ongoing group display area where work will rotate periodically.
The owners, along with director Lynee Sapere, will design and promote monthly changing shows which feature a larger body of work by one or two selected artists in a select exhibit area.
Special receptions will kick off each new show, scheduled for the second Friday of each month.
The initial exhibit includes watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and oil paintings, fine photography, fused glass pieces, fine pottery, sculpture and handcrafted furniture.
A grand opening for the gallery is slated for Jan. 16-18.
