Leaves leave reminder of fall

The Glenwood Homemakers announce that they will be offering a $300 Continuing Education Scholarship again this year.

This scholarship is open to anyone who has been a Glenwood resident for at least two years (or whose primary residence is Glenwood), has at least 12 post-secondary credit hours and will be attending an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university or trade school at least half time this fall.

Deadline to apply is Sept. 15.

Mark your calenders for Saturday, Sept 8, for an open celebration at the Glenwood Grange Hall following a noon potluck with ice cream for dessert.

Those being honored for 65 years members is Frank Ward; those with 50 years membership are Harry Dechand, Lela Ward, and Donald Lyle, who is now a 58-year member; and Chris Anderson, who is now a 25-year member.

This is a Pomona meeting held quarterly with Lucille Bevis, Klickitat Co. deputy, presiding.

In two more years, there will be more who will claim this honor. Glenwood Grange is 117 years old carrying on the never-ending work on the legislative front, guaranteeing us a voice in our state government on many issues. Everyone is invited.

Congratulations are extended to Billie Jo and Shane Patterson on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Emma Bear Patterson. Emma weighed in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces when she arrived on Aug. 7. Her grandparents include Bill and Alta Valdez of Glenwood.

We were happy to learn over the weekend that Vicky Miller has become engaged to Brian Jones! Congratulations to Vicky and Brian on their forthcoming marriage!

Parnessa Montgomery was seriously injured in a car accident Saturday night. We want Parnie and her family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

The Kayser family matriarch, Marguerite, passed away on Sunday, and will be missed by those who knew her. Mrs. Kayser was the personification of a hard-working ranch wife. Our condolences are extended to Marguerite's family on the loss of their mother and grandmother.

Our walking partner, Roxie Clemmer, sustained a sprained ankle in the line of duty last week. We're hoping she's feeling better real soon -- she is missed on the morning walks!

The Pioneer Memorial Community Church is again offering a youth group program on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for seventh graders and up. Local youth are invited to participate in the activities.
