Maryhill Museum of Art will host third and fourth grade students from local grade schools at the 21st annual Museum Week on Oct. 21, 22, and 23, 2008.
Students attending include: Oct. 21: Col. Wright School from The Dalles, and Goldendale Elememtary; Oct 22: Westside Elementary from Hood River; and Oct 23: Parkdale Elemementary, Whitson Elementary from White Salmon and Goldendale Elementary.
Museum Week at Maryhill Museum is an annual event. Classrooms come for one day of art fun, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.
Students will make their own images using wire, guided by artist Shelley Toon Hight, and have fun making torn paper portraits with teachers Mary Nygaard and Linda Anderson.
A special docent-led exploration of the exhibition, Andy Warhol and Other Famous Faces, will illustrate mid-century printmaking and the works of pop artists Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Takashi Murakami and others.
Portland's Actors in Action theater troupe will end each day with a fun filled adventure of self expression. Everyone gets to participate in their high energy performance.
"For 21 years students have come to Maryhill for Museum Week," said Colleen Schafroth, executive director. "The program was established to show children how art can be used as a bridge to better understand cultures and themselves. Teachers and students have made Museum Week our most popular educational program, and we are proud to offer it to area schools."
