Kyle VanLaar, Zac Halpern, Jim Price and Max Wulff each scored a victory by fall here last Thursday to lead Columbia High's wrestling team to a 35-34 win over La Center in the second half of a SWW 1A Trico Division double dual meet.
VanLaar got the Bruins their first six points with a pin of Adam Meifert with 34 seconds remaining in the first period of their 215-pound match.
Halpern followed with a pin of Aleks Meltser 1 minute and 47 seconds into the second period of their 125-pound match to give the Bruins another six points.
After 140-pounder Kevin Kreps defeated Ryan Kulla by technical fall, 15-0, for five CHS points, Price won the 160-pound match with a pin of Jason McClurg 54 seconds into the second period.
Wulff, who also won by a fall in his earlier match against a Kalama opponent, dispatched Lucas Welch with 12 seconds left in the first period of their heavyweight match.
Columbia's other six points came by way of a forfeit to Omar Ihmoda in the 171-pound weight class.
In other action, CHS's Brad Spring (119 pounds) lost by first-period fall to Elvis Anderson; Jon Belvin (130) fell to Chris Mayolo in the second period; Ethan Cranmer (135) dropped a 10-4 decision to Thomas Davis; Luis (145) Roque lost a 22-8 major decision to Kendall Lang; Connor Warner (152) lost by major decision, 21-8, to Bubba Myers; and Kristien Contreras (189) fell to Francisco Aguilar in the second period.
In its meet with Kalama--which it lost 63-10--Columbia's points came on Wulff's pin and Kreps' victory by decision.

The Bruins' next matches will be wrestled on the mats of Stevenson High School. Next Wednesday, Columbia travels downriver for a double dual meet that also includes Ilwaco and La Center. On Jan. 19, CHS returns to Stevenson for the Bulldogs' annual tournament.
