Host Hood River Valley Swim Team accumulated 1,892 points to place second at the 2006 Spring Sprinter, held April 29 at the Hood River Aquatics Center.
It was a breakout meet for 10-year-old Mariah Rawding of Husum, who won four swims in the girls 10-and-under division.
Her victories--which accounted for 80 team points--came in the 50-yard freestyle, the 50-yard breast stroke, the 50-yard backstroke and the 50-yard butterfly.
Erin Jones, Hood River, also had a big day in the pool. She turned in winning efforts in the girls 13-and-over 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle.
HRVST victories on the boys side went to Snowden's Scott Bergstrom, in the 11-12 500-yard freestyle, and the team's 13-and-over 200-yard freestyle relay. Bergstrom's win came in his final event and was the last of four top-five placements.
Matthew Bergstrom, Snowden, provided four top-four positions, topped by a second-place finish in the 10-and-under 50-yard butterfly. In the same age group, Jacob Rawding of Husum, was a model of consistency, posting three sixth-place efforts.
Other top finishes belonged to White Salmon swimmers Eliza Durkee-Neumann (2nd, girls 6-and-under 25 freestyle), Davis Melkonian (2nd, boys 6-and-under 25 freestyle) and Anna Anderson (3rd, girls 13-and-over 100 butterfly), and Arin Wooster of Northwestern Lake (3rd, boys 11-12 500 freestyle).
All told, swimmers representing eight teams--and some unattached--competed in 52 events during the daylong meet, won by Gresham's Mt. Hood Swim Team with 2,840 points.
