The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls swimmers combined for nine top-five individual finishes and two event wins in the La Grande Invitational swim meet Jan. 14 in La Grande.
The Dalles High Riverhawks and the Hood River Valley High Eagles competed in the Class 5A Intermountain Conference District swim meet Saturday in Hood River and both squads enjoyed success, with numerous swimmers qualifying for the OSAA state meet Feb. 18 at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

The Hood River, Redmond, and Pendleton high school swim teams are prominent in the conversation about the 2022 Intermountain Conference swimming team championships.
Intermountain Conference foes Hood River Valley and Redmond continued to serve notice that this year’s district swimming meet will prominently feature athletes from both schools. That, and the fact that based on head-to-head meetings this season, there is no clear favorite to win the title.
The Eagles and Panthers matched strokes for the second time in as many weeks Jan. 26 at a four-way meet in Madras. Redmond came out on top in both the boys (119-93) and girls (114-112) competitions. Two weeks ago in Hood River, the margin of victory was less for the Redmond boys over HRV (85-78), and the HRV girls won by a comfortable margin, 96-63.
To say the Hood River Valley girls swim team is built for a district championship is an understatement. The Eagles have the numbers — a requisite for district-meet success — and they have talent, which obviously helps, as well.
In the sport of swimming, the journey and process of a season is just as important as each individual competition. In the season of COVID, the journey has been cut short while the process has risen in difficulty for swimmers across the state.
