Wes Blankenship, Will Brasuell, Nolan Kenoyer and Abby Zuck each won two events for Columbia High last Thursday during a season-opening, six-team track and field meet in CHS Stadium.
Blankenship placed first in the shot put and the discus, Brasuell prevailed in the long jump and the 400-meter dash, and Kenoyer dominated the 110 high hurdles and the triple jump to lead CHS's boys team to a 45-point win over runnerup Stevenson.
Columbia also got wins from Kyle Earls in the 200 and from its 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Zuck sprinted to top finishes in the 100 and 200 to help Columbia's girls come in second in a competition that was won by Stevenson.
Other winners for CHS were Corrine Blankenship in the javelin, Ashley Neff in the 800, Mackenzie VanLaar in the high jump and Sara Ribeiro in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
Stevenson's girls amassed a meet-best 197 points--for a 56-point margin of victory. They won only two open events (the 400 and the 3200) but proved especially strong in the relays, winning all three races.
Klickitat, Stevenson and Woodland each had one multiple-event winner.
On the boys side, James Brewer of Klickitat won the high jump and javelin competitions, while Ty Walker doubled in the 800 and 3200 runs.
Ashley Hubenthal and Jenaya Sledge of Woodland combined for all five of their girls team's victories: Hubenthal in the 100 hurdles and triple and long jumps, and Sledge in the shot put and discus.
Columbia's next meet is this Thursday--the second of three home meets on the 2005 schedule. The CHS boys and girls teams will entertain squads from Castle Rock, La Center, Lyle and Trout Lake.
