Hood River Event site to close for all-day kiteboarding event

Slingshot will preview its 2004 kites and product line. Slingshot representatives will be on hand to discuss the latest kiteboarding technology that is making the sport easier to learn.

All kiters are welcome. The event begins at 8 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m. After that time, Slingshot plans to open the Event Site for kiteboarders the rest of the day.

The Port of Hood River typically does not allow kiteboards at the Event Site to prevent potential conflicts with other recreationalists, primarily windsurfers. Slingshot has reserved the Event Site as an exclusive use, however. As a result, no windsurfing may occur at the Event Site during the kiteboarding event.

Windsurfers are encouraged to enjoy the Port's other launch sites at Port Marina Park and the Hook.

Another Port park closure is scheduled the first weekend of September, when the Hoodstock music festival returns to Port Marina Park. The park will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, except for people attending Hoodstock.
