Unbelievable! The snow and ice have broken records for most of us High Prairians. Losing power for up to four days has tested everyone. Our hearts go out to those who have not had wood stoves for alternative heat, and possibly lack of food, water, telephone service, medical assistance and transportation. The stories, many of which will still surface, were of total desperation to "well, it is an adventure!" (by a 90 year old lady!).
But we all are grateful for the PUD repair crews who evidently worked around the clock in a most difficult environment. We also appreciate all the volunteer effort given to make lives and roads a little more tolerable in this trying time. I doubt that any of us in High Prairie have been more excited to see that power come on again!
We are proud of High Prairian David Thom who brings highly respected educational background in Portland to his new role on our local school board. Dave also wields a paint brush like few of us, not only in his volunteer work painting the community center, but doing great art work in the firehouse section. It's worth a look when one gets the opportunity!
We look forward to Bill Weiler, wildlife biologist, who speaks to us at our 7 p.m. meeting this Thursday evening. All are welcome to come and hear him. If the weather is uncertain, please call President Neil Shuster at 365-3610 to check any cancellation possibility.
