The clean-up Good Samaritans are at work in the community. Last week Verne Harpole, Roger Hull, Mindy and Randle Roberson and Joy Collins cleaned out the rose bed in-between the car wash and the "Blue Building." They trimmed the "Lyle" rosebush back and took down the old sign that once advertised a local business. This looks so much better and will give the old rose another chance to be a proud focal point for those driving through Lyle. Watch for the Community Clean up sign which will soon be hanging in that same spot.
Saturday, March 28, will be the final Leadership Plenty meeting at 9 a.m. in the basement of the Lyle United Methodist Church. You are still welcome to attend even if you haven't been able to make any of the other classes. The next step in the Horizons program will be discussed that day along with the class and graduation. If you are interested in learning what the next phase is, please plan to attend.
The Lyle Alumni "Reunion" letters are printed and the goal is to have them in the mail sometime this week. We already have our first registration. So when you get your letter, act fast as you know there is only room for about 250. Calls have been coming in from far and wide; this will be your chance to reunite with that lost high school buddy, friend, sweetheart, etc.
Easter Sunday is coming soon and at the Methodist Church the men will be cooking breakfast. Here is your opportunity not only to enjoy a wonderful Easter Service but also that free breakfast. All are welcome to share in the fellowship.
From the Mt. Adams Sun, Jan 29, 1937, (Very early settlement prove to have been made in Lyle section by George W. Wiley): "The property was known as the Staack lands even previous to the coming of William Meyers proves that very early settlement was made in Lyle."
"Chances are that many of the settlers previous to this came up the Columbia river from Vancouver, as that town, one of the oldest in the northwest was founded in 1828, and incorporated in 1858. "
"More of the settlers however, came across the river from The Dalles, Oregon, one of the earliest northwest settlements."
