Senior guard Trisheena Keys played a strong all-around game to help the Vandals win their Dec. 5 season-opener in convincing fashion.
Keys finished with an impressive stat line of 23 points, six steals, 5 rebounds and three assists.
Keys' classmates, Aryn Davis and Melissa Huwe, also turned in solid performances.
Davis totaled 13 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and four assists, while Huwe tallied 10 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Stevenson 32, at Lyle 31:
Alex Usher hit from 17 feet at the buzzer to lift the Bulldogs to a Dec. 5 non-league victory over the Cougars.
Usher's game-winning shot came after Lyle missed two free throws with 7 seconds remaining that could have put the Cougars ahead by three.
"It was a tough game to lose, but when you shoot 13 for 28 from the foul line, it makes it real hard, especially when 16 of those were shot in the fourth quarter," Cougars Coach Chris Barthlow noted.
Lyle led by three inside a minute and a half to go but couldn't put Stevenson away.
Rylee Walker scored on a putback with 57 seconds left to pull the Bulldogs within 31-30. Neither team scored again until Usher's shot at the buzzer.
Walker led all scorers with 10 points (8 in the second half).
For Lyle, Jessica Cochenour came up big with nine points and 10 rebounds. Joelle Jackson also scored nine, while Kiera Murphy pulled down 11 rebounds and Jessica Struck collected 10.
All told, the Cougars out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 46-41.
In other action, the Lyle jayvee defeated the Stevenson jayvee, 31-25.
