Congratulations to Corbin (CJ) Schuster for winning the Washington State University Gear Up Essay Contest! Regina Schuster reported that Jensi Smith, Glenwood's Site Coordinator for the Gear Up program, entered CJ's essay in the contest. As if winning this prestigious competition wasn't enough, CJ's prize was an all-expense-paid trip for himself and his mom to Washington, DC! The Schusters left on July 18 and returned July 23. They were treated to tours of highlights in the Washington DC area, along with nine other students and parents from the State of Washington. Several firsts for CJ included flying, riding in a taxi cab and a tour bus.
While CJ was in the "other" Washington, he had the opportunity to learn more about preparing for college when he visited Georgetown, American and George Washington universities. The trip was geared around politics, government and education, and allowed him to visit a number of other sites while in DC. He took in tours at many memorials including Lincoln, Washington, Vietnam and Korean. He also got to visit Gettysburg, the Arlington Cemetery, White House, Capitol, Library of Congress and many more sites.
What an outstanding trip for an outstanding student! CJ just completed his sophomore year at Glenwood High School. Congratulations CJ on both winning the essay contest and the once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington DC!
On Saturday, July 31, Courtney Ellingsworth was treated to a bridal shower by her in-laws-to-be: Marilyn Scott, Lacey Peterkin and Kristin Wilson. Courtney received many nice western-themed gifts to help her set up housekeeping. She and Trevor Scott will be married on Aug. 21.
