A public hearing to take testimony for or against the proposed Energy Overlay Zone in Klickitat County will be held on Monday, Sept. 20.
The Klickitat County Planning Commission will host the hearing, which will be in Goldendale at the Klickitat County Courthouse, in the County Commissioners' meeting room.
The Planning Commission will be considering whether to approve amendments to the Klickitat County Zoning Code, zoning ordinances, zoning maps, and the county's Comprehensive Plan in order to implement the Energy Overlay Zone (EOZ).
According to county officials, the purpose of the proposed EOZ is to "provide areas suitable for the establishment of energy resource operations based on the availability of energy resources, existing infrastructure, and locations where energy projects can be sensitively sited and mitigated; and to provide siting criteria for the utilization of wind, gas-fired, bio-mass, and solar energy resources."
The Planning Commission can recommend to the Klickitat County Board of Commissioners to approve or deny the EOZ proposal. It can also approve the EOZ with specific conditions, table the issue, or continue the hearing.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
