Bill DuBay, a former White Salmon resident and the son of Paul and Carolyn Curry, was honored with an Emmy by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Seattle Northwest Regional Chapter for his work in the Cultural/Fine Arts Special or Series category.
DuBay, editor, and Sketch Pasinski, director, received the honor during the Emmy Awards ceremony in Seattle on June 3.
The two competed against television stations in five states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.
The special, "Reefnet," is a short documentary film about reefnet fishermen on Lummi Island, in northwest Washington. "Reefnet" tells the story of a dwindling group of fishermen who honor traditional fishing methods and respect the environment.
"Reefnet" aired on KCTS (Washington Public Television) as part of the "About Us" series. It has been included in several film festivals including Seattle's Folk Life Fest, Whistler Film Festival and the Bellingham Film Festival.
DuBay graduated from Columbia High School and Washington State University. Both he and Pasinski are graduates of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication in Pullman.
