HOOD RIVER - Hood River County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Management advises that the National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts the Hood River Valley will have another snow event, starting mid-day tomorrow (Wednesday, 12/14,) continuing into tomorrow evening.
High easterly winds and cold temps late begin tonight and the snow storm is expected to arrive in Hood River at approximately 12-1 p.m. tomorrow; lasting one day.
In the Gorge, the NWS predicts high east winds, with 3-4 inches of snow at river level, and 6-8 inches in the Hood River Valley, with up to another foot of snow in the Cascades tomorrow.
This will make travel difficult, especially during the Wed. evening commute and possibly causing power outage or business interruption.
According to NWS, gusty easterly winds will be highest in the western Gorge, from Cascade Locks to Troutdale, with winds of 50-60 MPH.
NWS / NOAA is completely confident that snow will arrive Wednesday - they are mostly confident on the accumulation amounts.
Snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected across the state.
Looking ahead, cold temps continue through the weekend -- snow will remain frozen on the ground for several days without melting.
Next week, temps are expected to warm up and there is a strong chance of rain on snow.
Travel conditions in the area may again become difficult. The Sheriff's Office warns against unnecessary travel. If you must travel, please exercise extreme care and allow yourself extra time to get to your destination.
As always, this is a NWS forecast and actual conditions may change.
