CHS sophomore earns his Eagle award

A member of Mill A's Troop 360, Horack is one of approximately 2.5 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Alan Rogers.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or religious-institution project to earn his Eagle.

Horack chose a project which involved diverting downspouts for the White Salmon United Methodist Church. The rain water was going into the ground and eroding parts of the church's old foundation.

Horack has held many positions within his troop including senior patrol leader, OA representative and instructor. He is also active in Order of the Arrow (OA), to which he was elected in May 2001. Presently, he serves as chapter chief and brotherhood chairman.

Horack is a sophomore at Columbia High School and is the son of Stan Horack and Val Parish.
