"That was a good inning, and we needed it to put ourselves in a position to get the win," Bruins Coach Jeff Lindstrom said.

Corbett came back with a run in the top of the seventh, however, to tie the score at 9-all.

But in its final at-bat, Columbia put three runners on base ahead of Kruse, whose second hit of the game scored Rachel Connolly from third with the winning run.

All told, the Bruins outhit the Cardinals, 8-7. Ziegler had three hits and scored three runs for CHS, which got a team-high two runs batted in from Lacey Delehant.

Andrea Helton picked up the win in relief of Brittney Delehant. Helton entered the game in the fourth inning with CHS trailing 4-2.

In the second game, the Cardinals got the early lead and held it en route to a 12-4 victory in five innings.

The Bruins got three of their runs in the fourth and finished with six hits.

Ziegler, Morris, Kruse, Claire Stevenson, Lacey Delehant, and Ilima Caldwell each had one hit. CHS's four runs were scored by Morris, Monica Blackmer, Duniphin and Ziegler.

Lindstrom attributed the loss, in part, to Columbia's lack of focus in the early innings.

"It was our first double-header of the season and we weren't mentally prepared for that," Lindstrom said. "But we learned an important lesson: double-headers are long and we have to be mentally ready to play a full 14 innings of ball, because all of our league games are double-headers."

The Bruins (2-1) travel to Dallesport today for a non-league game against the Lyle Cougars that starts at 4 p.m. Next Thursday, the Bruins will host the Cougars in their final game before spring break.
