The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center in Stevenson, announces the 7th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In honor of Father's Day weekend, fathers will be admitted free.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony and the first firing of the 1856 Fort Rains cannon by Company "L" 3rd U.S. Artillery.
Traditional hand crafts will be demonstrated on first floor and will include candle making, spinning, weaving, rug hooking and quilting. Children will be supervised to help fire the cannon, make souvenir petroglyph rubbings and a beeswax candle.
The Second floor will feature the Bozorth collection of Pacific Northwest native American artifacts. The featured art exhibit will be watercolors of the Gorge by local artist, Marilyn Bolles.
Toe-tapping tunes will be offered as background music by the group, Ray Matta and Friends. For the machinist, a collection of single cylinder engines will be demonstrated near the main entrance.
Several members of the City of Vancouver Heritage Players will be in period costumes and interact with he visitors as historic characters.
Mary Schlick, author of Columbia River Basketry, will present a slide program on "The History of Underwood," in the Creation Theatre at 2 p.m.
"This is truly a family event to be enjoyed by all ages," says Director Sharon Tiffany.
